Ingredients:
- 1.5 oz Almond Liqueur
- 1.5 oz Whipped Cream Vodka
Background
This cocktail was inspired by Modern Pastry, my favorite Italian bakery in the North End of Boston. Modern Pastry’s almond macaroons have been a favorite of locals and tourists alike for their 80 years in business. These cookies are are sweet, nutty, delicious, and even easy to make (much like this cocktail)!
Pro tip: You can now order Modern Pastry’s macaroons by the pound
What are Italian Almond Macaroons?
Italian Almond Macaroons, also commonly called “Amaretti” cookies, can trace its roots back to Sicily, where they are locally called “Pasticcini di mandorla”. These soft, nutty cookies are made year round but are a Christmas specialty in some regions in Italy. Pastry chefs make the dough with almond flour and honey, sometimes even adding some amaretto liqueur for flavor, and then fold in egg whites. This makes it not only light and fluffy, but also a great gluten free dessert! The cookies bake in the oven and are best enjoyed at room temperature with tea, coffee, or a nice espresso martini.
How to make the Italian Almond Macaroon Martini
This dessert cocktail is one of the easiest cocktails to make! The recipe calls for equal parts almond liqueur and whipped cream vodka added to a shaker filled with ice. Combine the ingredients, shake well, and strain into your favorite cocktail glass. We recommend double straining this drink so as not to get ice chips in your glass.
