Directions:

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add your Kahlua, Pumpkin Vodka, and Bailey’s. If you like yours extra-pumpkiny, add in a spoonful or two of pumpkin pie filling and a couple shakes of pumpkin spice. Shake these ingredients together, and then strain into a couple glass, where you can top it with whipped cream, a caramel drizzle, and some more pumpkin spice. Then, sit back, relax, and enjoy the harmonious flavors of autumn coming together!

History of the PSL

The popularity of the Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) is an annual phenomenon that has risen to become a cultural icon and symbol of autumn. The drink has been around since 2003, when Starbucks first introduced it as a limited-edition seasonal drink. Since then, its popularity has increased dramatically—making it one of the most popular beverages at Starbucks. Now they sell more than 200 million cups of PSL each year! In fact, a survey conducted by Business Insider found that over half of Americans have tried or bought the PSL at least once in their lives. The drink is so popular that even non-Starbucks coffee shops are getting in on the trend.

How is a Pumpkin Spice Latte Made?

The PSL is made with espresso shots mixed with steamed milk and pumpkin-flavored syrup. The syrup is made with real pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, ginger, cloves and brown sugar. Some locations also offer a “pumpkin spice whipped cream” topping that can be added to the drink for an additional cost.

PSL as a Cultural Icon

The popularity of this drink has grown every year since its inception and now it’s almost as ubiquitous as coffee itself—you can find it at any coffee shop around the country. But there’s more to it than just being able to get your hands on one anytime you want: the PSL has become a cultural icon and symbol of autumn for many Americans. It’s one of those things that gets you in the mood for a crisp autumn day, with its warm and cozy flavors.

If you’re not familiar with what we mean by “cultural icon,” think about how many times you hear someone say things like “I need my pumpkin spice latte”, or how many pumpkin spice-flavored air fresheners, candles and hand soaps are being sold on Amazon.
